Loving what you do...

Do you love the art you make? I often wonder what the trick is to loving what you do. I find myself being my very biggest critic... along with my husband. For someone who was actually educated in art I have to say that I have no sense of loving what I do. Instead, I usually hate my own work. Am I alone? And how do I change that? How do I find that playfulness that my friend has who seems to love what she does?

Of course I have to be the first to welcome you! Loving what we do? I think we are here for such a fraction of time that all there is to do is try and live it up! We all are our worst critics. You will find artists here who do beautiful work, others who are just begining on their art journey. But most of us fall someplace in between where we are working hard at something we all love with a passion. What you will find here is plenty of encouragement along the journey. Enjoy your venture into the blog world. You will soon see how little this planet really is! I can't wait to see one of your beautiful Tahoe scenes!
ps: I miss you! Let's start planning that visit after the holidays ok? love you, me

Welcome to the world of bloggers Tricia, any friend of Martas can't be half bad. ;)
I have made you a 'star post' on my blog this week, I hope it brings some traffic and new friends your way.

p.s I've only been doing my own little art for a few years and have not had any classes and heck, I'm not embarrassed to put my stuff up at all, (even though I probably shouldn't,LOL)...

But yes I am a horrible critic on myself, it's just that I don't embarrass easily...

Welcome, hope you enjoy your journey here!
I play see-saw every time I put my hand to the pencil/brush....hate it-love it- hate it-love it...a day or two afterwards, I normally end up loving it again!

I do see it from the other side of the coin. I love what I do. I do find it difficult at times to give myself permission to have such fun. I think the key is to truly connect with the story. When it is personal it comes straight from the heart and matters not what anyone thinks...including you. Because it is right.

I think that we are all our own worse critics. I am definitely a perfectionist when it comes to whatever I do (photography, artwork, writing, sports (in the past) and so on)! I am only ever disappointed by anything I do and am only now learning to accept praise and compliments on my work with a, "Thank you!" rather than a, "Well, I only pressed the camera button - the puffin was there just sitting still!" (for example). I need to remember to tell myself that I decided on the composition and that that takes an 'eye'/skill/talent and a lot of practice that are all praise-worthy!

Welcome to the Blogospere, Tricia! I love to paint but I do put too much pressure on myself at times to get it right. I need to learn to love my mistakes as much as I love my accomplishments because mistakes really are great teachers. I do enjoy the ride though. I can't imagine my life without art in some form or another. :)
